Here we go, my first post on this platform!

Why Bear Blog?

I've been playing around with Bear Blog for the past week or so, checking how it works and all that, and I fell in love with how simple it is, and also, more importantly, how Herman talks about it and its future in his "The Bear Manifesto". I think what really convinced me to start a blog here was how he talked about his first promise "Bear won't shut down" and how he really is prepared to protect the future of the platform, no matter if he's around.
If there's something that I absolutely dislike about the modern internet, it's how nothing is made to last. Every site, no matter how big, popular, or loved it is, feels completely unstable lately. Beloved sites get recycled, deleted, paywalled, bloated with ads, and so on.

My Blog and its looks

Alright, starting from the top-left...
I chose the ligature Æ as my favicon by accident, copying and pasting different things in the settings tab some days ago, but then I realized that it looks pretty neat, so now I had to come up with a reason to keep it.
I've always liked how Æ looks, it's one of the characters that people add to their names to make them look edgier, or because their username is already taken, but I never researched its history. After some minutes of looking up its history, I learned some things, mostly that it's simply a stylistic form of the regular 2-letter combination "AE" used in Latin¹, which got popularized during the Carolingian Renaissance. I love the Romans, and while I still have some stuff to learn about Charlemagne and everything that surrounds his name, I must thank him for this one, because I love seeing this ligature in different older Western European works.

Skeleton's Domus? Yeah! I usually go by some variation of the word "Skeleton" online. I just like them; they look great, they are part of us, they can be creepy, cool, and even science-y. Not much to it other than I like them. As for "Domus", I was gonna name the blog "Skeleton's Blog", but I wanted to add a little bit of personality, I didn't want to go crazy, but defaulting to "[NAME]'s Blog" isn't for me!! So I went with "Domus", which is a type of Roman house, it's not the cheapest, most affordable one, but it's not as big and luxurious as a Roman villa, a nice in-between of sorts.

As for using the default theme... it's readable, it's simple, it's clean, it's just GOOD.

One last extra thing.

I don't know if you've realized yet, but English is not my first language. I think that I can communicate pretty well in English, but as always, it's way easier to read and listen than to write and talk. I use the English language a lot in my day-to-day life, but since I learned by myself and I don't use it in any formal situations, I haven't refined my grammar and I don't use too many scary big words. So, my apologies if you see any weird text around!
